I love smoothies full of fruit and veggies. To save time and money, I’ve been making frozen smoothie packets that can be blended with liquid for an easy smoothie.

For this batch,  I picked organic strawberries at a local strawberry patch, found several bunches of clearance bananas and bags of spinach for $0.37 each with coupon. Since these were all great deals, I picked up extras, but didn’t want any fresh produce to go to waste. This simple make-ahead smoothie recipe ensures the ingredients won’t spoil and I can enjoy a delicious smoothie in minutes.

RECIPE:
In a heavy duty freezer bag add:
1 cup packed spinach or kale
6-8 frozen or fresh strawberries (stems removed)
1 peeled banana

Seal bag tightly. Label and store for six months or more in freezer.

To make smoothie from frozen mixture:
Add entire ingredients of freezer bag and 1 cup liquid of your choice (water, juice, almond, soy or cow milk) to blender and blend until smooth. You can add more or less liquid depending on how thick you like your smoothies (just make sure to add enough liquid for your blender to work properly.) Greek yogurt or protein powder is another add-in if you want to increase your protein or thicken your shakes. This makes one large or two smaller servings of smoothie.

This is a super easy recipe. If you drink smoothies every day, you can prep an entire week’s worth of smoothies at once and always have a pre-made smoothie packet ready to go.  Blueberries, raspberries, mangoes, or pineapples are other fruits that freeze well and can be added to this recipe. Enjoy!

I love this idea! I am not the best at meal planning – or prepping early. This inspires me to try harder! lol
