The Cat in the Hat

Dr Seuss books are my favorite books to read to my children. They are so fun, animated and silly with made up words and out of this world characters. The Rose Performing Arts Theatre is bringing Dr Suess’s classic ‘The Cat in the Hat’ live on stage in an exciting and energetic performance.

The cast provides a perfect portrayal of the classic Dr Suess book and brings the pages alive in just 45 minutes. I took my two boys, ages 4 and 6, and we all laughed at the silly shenanigans of The Cat in the Hat and his two sidekicks, Thing 1 and Thing 2.

My absolute favorite part of the show is when Thing 1 and Thing 2 are unleashed from the red box and the chaos really begins.  Thing 1 and Thing 2 dance through their scenes and make a mess of the stage (Sally & Conrad’s home).  Before their mother comes home, The Cat in the Hat brings out an impressive cleaning machine and the entire clean-up process is choreographed beautifully.

The sound effects for ‘The Cat in the Hat’ are amazing. I am thoroughly impressed with the extensive and creative use of sound throughout the show. At one point, The Cat in the Hat was bouncing a ball on stage and while there was not an actual ball on stage, the sound effects made you believe there actually was. All the little details for this show make a fun and entertaining performance!

I highly recommend this show for young children, ages 3 and up. Even my fidgety 4 year old year sat quietly through most of the show. If you know my youngest son, you know that’s very hard for him to do.
