The Rose is offering a very unique show created specificially for children with autism and preschoolers. ‘A Palette of Possibility’ opens October 26 and is an interactive adventure that explores color in all its various forms. This show is a full 45 minutes of fun and education exploring 3 primary colors, red, yellow and blue!
‘A Palette of Possiblity’ is presented in the Rose’s smaller Hitchcock stage on the 4th floor. Kids sit on the floor on giant bean bag chairs or in smaller chairs behind the bean bags. The language used during the show is very simple and allows the children to explore each of the colors with lots of colorful visuals. There is tons of movement and audience interaction. During some scenes, members of the audience are even invited on stage to be part of the show!
I took my 5-year old son who has visual impairment and other needs and he loved the show. He was enthralled with all the action and enjoyed being able to touch props used in the show. His favorite color was blue when the actors transformed the stage into an ocean! Several kids were given fish as props and the actors became seawood, a turtle and my son’s favorite – a giant jellyfish.
During the color blue, the children also explored clouds and rain. Children were asked to help make rain sounds using their hands and the result was fabulous. It was so fun to watch the kids really get involved with the show and see their excitement.
This is fun show to introduce your preschooler to live theater! If you have a child with autism, this show is designed with them in mind. It’s a sensory rich show without the bright lights or loud noises and simple language. My preschooler adored this show and I would recommend it for anyone with children that age.
