The Summer of Invention at Do Space is the opportunity for community members to challenge themselves to think bigger, try something new and create positive change. Throughout the summer, Do Space will have invention-themed activities for people of all ages, plus a chance to win a Microsoft Surface Tablet 4 starting in June.
It all begins with a Kickoff Party on Saturday, June 4 from 12-4 PM. Everyone is invited to preview the summer youth programming, try their hand at the Great Prototype Challenge and gather for a virtual Q&A with Omaha-born Harvard Researcher Jason Eastman, whose job involves discovering new planets!
Some of the highlighted youth events in June include:
Littles Lab: Summer of Invention (preschoolers & parents/guardians)
- Every Tuesday at 9:30 AM and on Saturdays at 9:30 and 10:30 AM
- Join Do Space for the Summer of Invention and programs all about ideas, inventing and making! They will be reading books such as Rosie Revere Engineer and Beautiful Oops. Practice digital literacy as we navigate apps and games on the wall-mounted touchscreen PC and get creative with your own Idea Notebook (and new puzzles and toys) during center time! The series occurs
Big Littles Lab: How to Invent (Ages 6-8 & parents/guardians)
- Every Sunday and Wednesday at 1 PM
- This month in Big Littles, they will focus on what it takes to make an invention. We’ll go through the process and build your own invention!
Junior Makers: Marvelous Moving Machines (Ages 9-11)
- Every Tuesday at 1 PM
- This month, make moving machines from boats to planes to cars. Whether you’re traveling through the air, on the ground or over water, you will leave prepared for your next adventure!
Teen Hackers: Edible Engineering (ages 12 and up)
- Thursdays at 1pm
- The Teen Hackers build bridges, buildings and other structures with edible materials. With foundations made of food, they will submit the structures to a series of stress tests to make sure they can withstand the worst nature can do.
