School ended yesterday for my daughter. Did you know that kids could lose up to 2.5 months of learning throughout the summer? This can make for a rough start to the school year for kids, parents and teachers but it is fully preventable with just a little learning each day.

According to a study by Johns Hopkins University, by ninth grade, then lack of summer learning can be blamed for roughly two-thirds of the achievement gap.

Giveaway:
One lucker reader will win a Carson-Dellosa Summer Bridge Activity Learning Pack. This pack includes: Summer Bridge Activities card set (any grade), Summer Bridge Activities work book (any grade), access to Summer Bridge Activities online companion, 2 sun note pads (50 sheets each), 2 packs of Sea Life name tags (40 per pack), Sea Life mini incentive charts (30 charts, 630 stickers). I’ve got some fun math games that we will play, as well as letting my sons help plan, prepare and clean up meals that we will share as a family. I will also sign my oldest up for the Summer Reading club at our public library and the big bookstores in town.

Our local Metroparks offer classes and activities all summer long, including outdoor hikes, field trips, classes with teachers, and opportunities to learn about astronomy, geology, biology, botany…all geared to different ages…
Also children can learn skills such as canoeing, safety in the woods, teamwork and more.

During the summers we count and name things on our walks, watch nature change as it gets closer to school starting again and fall. Along with games.
