Do your kids love Goosebumps? Maybe the Goosebumps books were even your favorite spooky reads as a kid. The classic R.L. Stine books have been entertaining children for over 25 years. Now, The Rose Theater in Omaha is bringing a classic Goosebumps novel to the stage.

Goosebumps: The Phantom of the Auditorium – The Musical opened October 26 just in time for Halloween fun and will run through November 11. Best friends, Brooke and Zeke, are cast as the leads in the ‘Phantom of the Opera’ musical. This script has a haunted and mysterious past that becomes apparent during this 75 minute show.

Strange things start happening during rehearsals.What’s up with the trap doors below the stage? And, the hidden hideouts? Who’s making the strange voices that echo in the theater? Who is this mysterious phantom that spooks the halls of the school? With the super scary mayhem, will the show go on? This slightly spooky musical keeps you on your toes guessing who or what is really haunting the auditorium.

There are some slightly scary and also comedic scenes as is typical with Goosebumps. The show is fun and entertaining, but use your judgement for bringing little ones who spook easily. There is no violence or gore, but does have a spooky vibe that may be unsettling for younger audience members. My 8 year old son was a little bit scared at times, but loved the show. My 10 year old son was not spooked at all and loved watching one of his favorite series of books come to life on the stage.

The newest Rose production features eight talented youth actors, ranging in age from 12-16, who keep in the spirit of the Goosebumps series. This is a fun, spooky show that is perfect for this time of year.
