We eat Mexican-ish foods in our house quite often. Mexican food just lends itself to easy, family friendly meals that everyone in our family likes. Things like tacos, taco salads, enchiladas, burritos.
But we ran into a problem a couple of years ago when we started suspecting one of my children was sensitive to certain types of foods. Not “sensitive” as in allergic, but “sensitive” as in “you act like a crazy man sometimes and we’re trying to figure out why” kind of sensitive. It was a LONG, really HARD effort to basically eliminate lots of stuff from his diet and then re-introduce them one by one to see if that food made a difference in behavior.

During that time in our lives, we didn’t get to eat out. If it wasn’t made in our house with our ingredients, my son couldn’t eat it. It would invalidate ALL the hard work we were doing as then we couldn’t deduce what might be causing certain behaviors.
BUT, there were a couple of places that we could eat out at — Panera and Chipotle. They are restaurants that our family likes anyway, but they’re a bit on the pricey side. And we still wanted to minimize the eating out anyway. So this recipe was born from a desire to still eat Burrito Bowls like we get at Chipotle, but be able to do it at home.
Now please don’t read that and think this will taste exactly like Chiptole. It won’t. At all. I don’t use chipotle peppers in my marinade. There is no heat to these Steak Bites. That’s what makes them work for my family.
How to Serve Steak Bites
We like to serve these steak bites on top of plain or Mexican rice and top with cheese, diced tomatoes, avocados, salsa, and sour cream. When I make them, I’ll just lay out the ingredients on the table and the kids will make their own with their favorite toppings. You could also serve them with warmed tortillas for a delicious steak taco.

My husband likes these too, cause – STEAK! And I like them, not only for the taste, but also for the fact that it’s an economical way to eat steak. Try it – you’ll like it!
