Book Synopsis:
“With over 200,000 copies in print, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day has proven that people want to bake their own bread, provided they can do it easily and quickly. Now with their second book, Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day, authors Dr. Jeff Hertzberg and Chef Zoë François are helping people lead a healthier lifestyle.
Whether you are looking for more whole grains, whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, training for a triathlon, trying to reduce your cholesterol, or just care about what goes into your body, this book delivers.”
I made two recipes: the master bread recipe and the 100% Whole Wheat bread, plain and simple with some added honey. Making the bread was very simple, especially since there is no kneading and both recipes had less than six ingredients. The actual preparation and mixing of the dough only took a few minutes, but you do have to allow several hours to let the dough rest and bake. The best part of their method is that once you mix a dough, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 10 days and bake as needed for a fresh loaf anytime. You can even add ingredients, like fruits, vegetables or cheese, to some of the premixed doughs to make a gourmet treat.
How did the bread taste? The master bread recipe was a little bland, but the whole wheat with added honey was so delicious. We gobbled up the first loaf, so I baked the 2nd loaf right away. What I really like about their recipes is that all the ingredients are natural and healthy. There are no preservatives, ingredients I can’t pronounce or high fructose corn syrup, ingredients found in most store bought breads. (Even a locally owned artisan bakery in Omaha uses high fructose corn syrup in their breads!)
If your family is looking for healthier food options, Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day is a great bread recipe book. Their bread baking technique is an intermediate cooking skill, but they do a good job of explaining every step and making the process very simple. This book would be appropriate for beginners or baking professionals who want to make healthy artisan bread.
Giveaway: Thanks to FSB Associates, I have an extra copy of Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day to give away to one lucky winner.

I think we all realized I’d never be a baker when at about 9 I put a paper towel in the oven to broil a bagel on. I thought since you could put them on one in the microwave the oven wouldn’t be any different. I was quite a smart kid, believe it or not but I SEVERELY lacked the common sense God gave a dog! Thought y’all would get a kick out of that!
Merry Christmas everyone.
I’ve never made homemade bread before, other than in a bread machine.

I bake homemade bread often. Usually wheat.
Yes, I’ve baked home made breads. I’ve baked quite a few no-knead recipes and found them heavenly. But I’m really looking for a whole grain version which is harder to get a combination of grains that give you a chewy, yummy bread. I’ve had my eye on this book, it may have what I’m looking for.

I have baked homemamde bread, but have only tried a very sweet white Amish bread. I found the recipe on AllRecipes under ‘Amish White Bread.’ I found it by mistake while searching for the friendship bread recipe. Thank you for this giveaway!

When I was a teenager, not only did I bake homemade bread, but I collected tons of recipes for homemade bread. I’ve still got them, and really need to break them out and get back to it. Altho, with this book, I might not need to?
I have baked homemade bread in the past but not in several years. I would love to start baking healthy bread for my family and even asked hubby to buy me a baking stone for Christmas (which he did). Now I just need a good healthy bread cookbook and I’ll be all set so I would love to win this book!!
I have actually never baked homemade bread before. I have several recipes to do so, but I just get kind of scared. I had a neighbor bake bread for me once and it was AMAZING! So I definitely want to try it. Thanks for the giveaway.

I baked bread from scratch the old fashioned way years ago. Nowadays I use a bread machine, and I’d love to adapt some of the recipes to go in my machine.
I love bread from scratch and so does my family. I hate to say though that I don’t make it as often as they and I would like. I really think this would be a huge boost for me to make it more often as it make sit so much easier to have healthy bread.
I have baked homemade bread using my bread machine but it did not come out as well as I’d hoped. It has been years since I’ve done it.

The closest to homemade that I have baked is in my breadmaker. 🙂 I guess I kind of used to ‘help’ Grandma bake bread when I was a kid.
I love to make the sourdough bread recipe from the Complete Tightwad Gazette. My family loves it! I also make bread in my breadmaker, since Hubby bought me one, but the sourdough not made in the breadmachine is the best!
