Please tell me you’ve heard Adam Sandler’s Lunch Lady Land song? I can’t hear the words “sloppy joe” without hearing that song in my head. I just can’t. If you’ve never seen it, you’re missing out on some great comedy. In fact, let’s just watch it again, shall we?
Now that I’ve put some fun into your head, it’s time to put some fun into your belly. This casserole will do that. Maybe it isn’t the sexiest recipe in the world (I wouldn’t serve it at your parent’s 50th wedding anniversary or anything), but it’s a good way to serve leftover sloppy joes. It’s even a good alternative to putting sloppy joes on a bun and serving it that way.
Because sloppy joes freeze well, I’ll make a double or triple batch and freeze the leftovers. Having them in the freezer makes it super easy to just pull some out of the freezer and make this casserole.
Sloppy Joe Crescent Bake
Ingredients
- 1 can refrigerated crescent dough
- Sloppy Joes (about 3-4 cups)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Unroll ½ of the crescent dough to cover the bottom of an 8×8 pan.
- Bake for 8 minutes, just until starting to brown.
- Remove and cover the bottom with a layer of cheese.
- Put sloppy joes on top.
- Put another layer of cheese on top.
- Put the rest of the crescent rolls on top. Pinch the seams together as best you can.
- Bake for about 12-14 minutes until brown.
- Enjoy!
Jayme is a wife to 1 and to four little boys. She coupons, but isn’t super extreme about it. She price matches and loves it! While she likes to cook, she’s in the stage of life where simple is usually better. She never knows how many hands she’ll have free at dinner time. You can find her at No Regrets Living.
Beware this recipe. Some ingredients and directions are missing and / or incomplete. Recipe needs to be read through *before* starting it. Otherwise simple and enjoyable although a bit bland.
This recipe is very close to one I have made for years. We use 2 rolls of crescent rolls, 9 x 13 pan, 1-1/2# hamburger, 1 can sloppy joe mix, chopped onions and 2 cups cheddar and 2 cups mozzarella cheese. (Crescent rolls ( we do not bake first), hamburger/onions/sloppy joe mixture, cheeses, another layer of crescent rolls. Bake about 30 minutes. Try it!
Love this but sometimes I put in taco seasoning pkg.
I started making these when my mom moved in with us. She loved sloppy joes but as she aged, it was more difficult for her to eat them as a sandwich. I use a 9 x 13 baking dish and when I’m short on time, a can of Manwich. I also buy the crescent roll sheets when possible . I don’t prebake the bottom crust either. So, it’s:
Crust layer, sloppy Joe mixture on top, grated cheese (use whatever I have on hand- tonight it was an Italian blend), then finally another package of crescent sheet/rolls. Brush melted butter or olive oil on crust and top with Italian seasoning. Bake at 375 for 20 min. Now I make it this way every time!
Sounds amazing!
