Teacher Gift Ideas!

A Facebook group member recently asked what gifts are great for teacher gift this Holiday season and there were some amazing ideas. They work hard all year, so it’s nice to give them a token of appreciation during the Holidays.

If you can, ask the teacher what they would like, so you get something they will enjoy. I usually give coffee gift cards and ask my kids what cups they see their teacher drinking in school. However, this year, one of my kid’s teachers is pregnant, so my daughter made a gift basket of candy bars she sees her teacher enjoying during the lunch hour.

Gift Ideas for Teachers:

Gift Cards – Most teachers agreed gift cards are best. The teachers can pick out exactly what they want/need and it’s very much appreciated. You can select gift cards for gas, groceries, coffee, book store, fast food or even a salon.

Entertainment – If the teacher loves movies, get a movie theater gift card or tickets. One year I gave the teachers a really nice popcorn basket with several Redbox codes and they loved it. Most of them had kids, so I knew they could enjoy the winter break and watch some movies with their family.

Candy or Food baskets – Consumables are always a nice gift. Who doesn’t love a gift basket full of delicious items? I made these cute homemade cookie mix jars one year to give to my son’s school bus drivers and preschool teachers and they loved it. He had five people to gift that year, so I needed something budget friendly and thoughtful.

School supplies – Teachers often spend their own money on school supplies, so helping them stock their classroom is a thoughtful gift.

Wearables – More ideas include a nice scarf, fuzzy socks or mittens. One of my kid’s teachers always wears a scarf to school, so I know that would be a much appreciated gift.

Candles or Scent Warmers – A few nice scented items can make a great gift for teachers.

Bath & Body Products – A nice, lightly scented lotion, hand sanitizer or sugar scrub can make a cute gift basket for a teacher.

Card or letter – Don’t forget to add a personalized card to the gift. If your child is old enough you can even have them write a letter of appreciation to their teacher. Several teachers said they keep these letters and love reading them even years later.

What to Avoid:
The consensus from most teachers was to avoid coffee mugs. They agreed this is a common gift and there are only so many coffee mugs one person can have.

Last Thoughts:
Don’t forget about their specials teachers, like PE, Art and Music. Even if it’s a smaller gift, it’s nice to think of them as well.

Bottom line is think of something your kid’s teacher would really enjoy. You don’t have to blow the budget with huge extravagant gifts, but giving them a little something this time of year shows your appreciation for the time they spend educating your children. One teacher said even a $5 gift card for coffee makes her day. It really is the thought that counts and teachers deserve to be spoiled.

I usually buy the codes from redbox.com and then print them on a gift tag or make a pretty card with the codes included.

It’s so thoughtful to give gifts to teachers. My favorites over the years were Torani syrups to flavor my coffee, books of colorful postage stamps, and of course gift cards to Target or any grocery store. I agree…no more mugs. 🙂

Remember not everyone likes coffee, so make sure the store has other items like hot tea or cocoa.
