Valentine’s Day is coming soon and I know it’s time to start thinking about that special gift for the significant other. My husband tells me I am are hard to shop for and I tell him the same thing. We’ve been married over 12 years and here are some creative gifts we’ve given each other over the years.

Custom Photo Book
Shortly after baby #2, I made my husband a photo book featuring pictures of us during our time together. I create a story through pictures telling him all the ways I loved and appreciated him. This is a gift he can enjoy for many years. Bonus is there are almost always deals on photo books!

Subscription boxes
Want to give a gift that keeps giving? Consider a subscription box that delivers monthly surprises! Here’s a list of men’s subscription boxes.
Lottery Tickets & Chocolate
Last year my husband gave me a fantastic gift by hiding lottery tickets inside a box of chocolates. I love chocolate and I love scratch tickets, so this was a perfect gift for me! In case you are wondering, I did win some money too.
Painting
You can easily create a unique painting, even if you’re not very creative, by attending a painting class. There are several painting classes in the Omaha area and they make a fun gift for the art lover. Or, you can even purchase a painting session for two and go with your significant other to create your individual ‘matching’ masterpieces on a date night.

Dinner & Dessert
You can go out for dinner and fight the crowds, but I prefer spoiling my husband with his favorite home cooked meal and dessert. He is a foodie, so he appreciates when I take time to make a meal special for him. A home cooked meal is a great gift for someone who enjoys delicious food. (Just remember to leave the dishes for the next day and simply enjoy the special evening.)
Personalized Coupon Books
Coupon books are a frugal and fun gift that you can make right from home with a printer. When my husband and I were actively working on getting out of debt, money was tight, so I received several coupon books and loved them. (The one below is from 10 years ago when I was 8 months pregnant with our first child. He even included quotes on each coupon.) Some ideas for coupons include: your choice of dinner, breakfast in bed, massage, 1 hour kid-free, coffee on me, movie night (your choice), homemade dessert, etc. You can customize it to include the things your significant other enjoys most.

Personal Letter & Card
Don’t forget to add a personal letter or card to your gift. My husband has always written me a card or letter and I have kept them all over the last 13 years.
Spend Time Together
Valentine’s Day is not just about gifts, but also spending quality time with your significant other. Spending time together does not have to cost lots of money. There are many things you can do at home on a budget; rent a movie from Redbox, crank the music and dance the night away, look through old photos of your first dates or wedding, play video games at home (Wii Super Mario Bros is our favorite), play a board game, cook a meal together, visit a museum and just enjoy each other’s company.
I hope this list gives you some ideas for a perfect gift for that special someone. Please share any other ideas you have for a creative Valentine’s Day gift.
