We are a house divided.
No, one of us doesn’t cheer for Iowa and the other for the Huskers. That’d be understandable.
No, instead one of us is an Apple fan and one of us goes for Cherry. It comes up almost every holiday – apple pie or cherry pie? It’s something we’re working through. We haven’t needed to enter Counseling over it yet.
But we’re still a house divided. The solution for us has been plenty of desserts for both of us. Apple Dump Cake and Apple Crisp and Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars for him. Cherry Pie and No Bake Cherry Cheesecake and Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake for me. We keep working on it.
That’s where this Cheater Cherry Crisp comes from. It’s essentially what would happen if my Apple Crisp recipe had a love child with a can of Cherry Pie Filling. That’s why I call it a Cheater Cherry Crisp. It’s homemade because the topping is homemade. It’s not homemade because the main ingredient is a can of Cherry Pie Filling. Call it semi-homemade. Call it kind of homemade. I call it a Cheater Cherry Crisp.
It’s delicious. The simplicity of it doesn’t take away from the taste of it. You can easily double it if you want to make a bigger pan. As written, it fits into an 8×8 or a 9×9 pan perfectly, but a bigger 9×13 serving is easily done.
