Get ready for dragons, knights, battle scenes, a friendly village and an unlikely friendship in the Rose Theater production of The Reluctant Dragon through April 4. This is a story of a young boy, Glaston, who befriends an unusual dragon. Considered the last dragon on Earth, he would rather write poetry, paint or play chess than fight and breathe fire.

However, the villagers are afraid of the dragon and call on St. George to slay the dragon and ‘rescue’ the village. Glaston devises a plan to save his new dragon friend. You will have to see the show at the Rose to see how it all ends and if he can save his new dragon friend.

Reluctant Dragon-1

The Reluctant Dragon shows us you can’t judge a book by it’s cover and provides a valuable moral lesson about overcoming prejudice. This is a play sure to delight young children ages 5 and up.

My 6 year old son loved the dragon character and I was impressed with the creative costume. The dragon is played by two characters connected with a tube to create a larger than life dragon character. The actor in front uses cords to make the dragon talk and the actor in back can activate the wings! It’s really quite creative and impressive. Also, be prepared for big ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ from the kids when they project a giant dragon onto the ceiling. All three of my kids loved that part!

I’d like to see it because Glaston boldly saves the day. Usually I get tickets, but my husband was looking for a new job, so I didn’t want to commit to anything when they sent us emails. This looks fun!
