How to Cut Watermelon Chunks FAST!

My whole family loves watermelon, but if we don’t cut it to eat, it usually just sits on the counter. I used to dread cutting a watermelon, but then came across a quick way to cut chunks and can cut an entire watermelon in minutes. It’s so easy to cut perfect watermelon chunks with this method.

Steps to cut a watermelon into chunks fast:

  1. Cut the watermelon into quarters.
  2. Slice into one side of the quarter in 1/2″-1″ increments (closer slices = smaller chunks). Make sure your knife is long enough to make slices to the rind on the opposite end of the watermelon.
  3. Turn the watermelon and slice into the 2nd side (repeat step #2).
  4. Slice in 1/2″-1″ increments from the top of the watermelon (make sure your knife hits the rind, but not cut through the rind.)
  5. Gently run your knife along both sides of the rind.
  6. Tip watermelon into container and chunks will fall out.

These are the simple steps to cut watermelon chunks fast. Watch this quick video to see it in action:

Some helpful tips:

* If you are cutting a larger watermelon, make sure you use a long enough knife to cut it.

* If you have a really juicy watermelon, place a towel flat under the cutting board to soak up the extra juice and avoid having to clean the counter and the floors.

* Refrigerate chunks and use within 3-5 days for best quality.

* You can freezer watermelon for use in purees, slushes, or smoothies. Simply place the chunks on a freezer friendly tray and flash freeze. Once frozen, transfer the chunks into a heavy duty freezer bag. They will be individually frozen, so you can use a few at a time for your recipes. Frozen watermelon changes composition, so I wouldn’t eat frozen watermelon as a snack, but it’s great in recipes.
