Now that the weather is warming up it’s putting me in the mood for smoothies, and nothing quite hits the spot like my favorite strawberry chocolate smoothie. I’ve tried this a couple different ways and it’s delicious no matter what.
The Secret to Thick & Creamy Smoothies
The secret ingredient is avocado! It just adds an amazing thick and creamy texture, not to mention adding a hidden veggie component that your kids will never notice! My son absolutely hates avocado but he RAVES about these smoothies even though he watches me put avocado in it!
How to Make Chocolate Strawberry Smoothies
Now some people like to add ice to their smoothies, but personally I prefer to just use frozen fruit. That makes sure the smoothie doesn’t get watered down too much and remains more nutrient dense. So all you need for this particular treat, is some frozen strawberries (here’s how to easily freeze fresh strawberries), half a ripe avocado, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1 cup of almond milk (or really any milk works, that’s just what we have on hand) and 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup.
Personally, I prefer to make mine with maple syrup because honey tends to harden and get stuck on the bottom of the blender or food processor instead of getting mixed in. I also make mine in a food processor rather than a blender because my blender stinks…haha. But blender or food processor, both eventually get the job done.
Load up your mixer of choice with your strawberries, avocado, milk, and honey or maple syrup, and blend until smooth. This technically makes 2 moderate servings, but I can usually eat all of it myself. If you’d like to have plenty to go around, definitely double the recipe. These are best enjoyed on a breezy summer afternoon, under the shade of a large maple tree while the birds serenade you with a lilting melody. But feel free to enjoy them any way you want!
