On a hot summer day, I frequently find myself hankering for a cool and refreshing treat, and so have built up an arsenal of favorite smoothie recipes. This delicious berry lemon smoothie is one of my current favorites and absolutely packed with fruits, veggies, protein, and a whole lot of flavor! You’ve got the sweetness of the bananas and berries, alongside the citrusy flair of lemon to give it an amazing flavor profile. My kids always tell me that I am the smoothie queen when I make this one, so its definitely a hit.

How to Make a Berry Lemon Smoothie (with Hidden Veggies)

To make your smoothie, add 1.5 cups of your favorite milk to the blender. I personally really like oatmilk, but I’ve also made it with almond milk too. Toss in a generous handful of spinach (woohoo for hidden veggies!), a ripe banana, blueberries, strawberries, frozen carrots (woohoo for MORE hidden veggies!), and fresh lemon juice. If you’d like, you can also toss in a tablespoon of flax or chia seeds for some added protein. Them simply pulse on high until you’ve got a nice smooth texture. Personally, I like mine as smooth as possible, so I blend for almost 60 seconds, sometimes more. Then just divide into 2 cups and serve!

Smoothie Recipe Variations

If you prefer a thicker smoothie, use slightly less milk, or if you like it thinner, feel free to add more liquid. I personally cannot taste the spinach or carrots thanks to the sweetness of the berries and tang of the lemon, but note that if you add more than a handful of spinach, the flavor may be more detectable. If you don’t have any frozen carrots, raw carrots can be used in a pinch, or you can omit them altogether and add an extra serving of frozen berries instead.

I also prefer not to add sweetener to my smoothies if possible since bananas and berries are naturally sweet, but feel free to toss in some real maple syrup if you like yours on the sweeter side.

The very best thing about smoothies is how adaptable they are, so give this a try and change it up as you prefer!
