2016 Summer Reading Programs for Kids!

Get kids excited about reading over the summer and avoid the summer slump with these summer reading programs! All of them are free and encourage your child to read with their fun reward programs.

2016 reading programs

1. Barnes & Noble
The BN Summer Reading Triathalon runs from May 17 – September 1, 2016. Kids keep a reading log and turn in their logs at a local store to pick their choice of book from the list of options. They have books for grades 1-6.

2. TD Ameritrade
Kids in grades K-5 simply fill out a reading log listing 10 books they read over the summer. Take the form to the nearest TD bank and they will deposit $10 in their new or existing TD Simple Savings Account.

3. Half Price Books
This program is for preschool through high school aged kids and runs June and July. For grades 8 and under, simply read 15 minutes a day and fill out the monthly reading log. High school kids will need to write a short book review to earn their reward. Each month, turn in your reading logs or review for $5 HPB Bookworm Bucks to spend at Half Price Books. That’s $10 total for the summer! Bookworm Bucks and reading logs expire September 1, 2016.

4. Scholastic Summer Reading Program
From May 9 – September 9, 2016, simply log your child’s minutes online and earn virtual prizes. Plus, you can enter to win great prizes from Klutz.

5. Chuck E. Cheese’s
Simply print a reading log calendar (two weeks of reading) and redeem at any Chuck E. Cheese’s location for 10 free play tokens.

6. Public Library Summer Reading Programs
Almost every public library has a summer reading program and this is my kid’s absolute favorite program every year! Some libraries even have programs for teens or adults. The prizes at our local library include kid’s books, free kid’s meals, tickets to local events or pool passes (my kid’s pick). Plus, they often have free children’s programs throughout the summer. Check with your local library for details.

My kids absolutely love reading and these extra perks from reading programs are just motivation to keep it up all summer.

Anyone know if Pottery Barn Kids will offer their summer reading program? Two years ago they had a program where if your child read or was read to a number of books on the list (all of which were at the library) they got a certificate and were able to pick out a free book. It was a great program!
