Do you ever get to the end of your favorite jar of pickles and wonder what on earth to do with the leftover pickle juice? While some people out there do seem to enjoy pickle juice as a beverage, that person is not me. And while I do like to add a bit of pickle juice to the meat when I make my favorite Big Mac Salad Bowl, this particular hack allows you to make homemade pickles using the whole remaining jar of pickle juice to make MORE pickles!

You heard me right. More pickles! This hack could not be easier, and I’m here to say that the second batch of pickles might be even MORE delicious because the cucumbers are crispier.

Best Pickles for This Pickle Hack

For this pickle hack, I prefer to use fresh mini cucumbers. They are smaller and similar in size most store-bought pickles. However, English cucumbers will also work. Simply cut the cucumbers into bite-sized slices.

How to Make Homemade Pickles with Pickle Juice

Once you’ve finished up a jar of your favorite pickles, simply chop up the cucumbers and fully submerge them in the remaining pickle juice. Refrigerate for one week before enjoying. I’ve tried less resting time than that and they’re still good. However, the pickles will reach their peak flavor at around one week when all the flavors have really had time to meld.

What Type of Pickle Juice Can I Use?

This works whether you prefer dill, bread and butter, spicy or any other variety of pickles. And in this economy when it can sometimes be tough to find things you need on grocery store shelves, this is a handy hack. The store is out of your favorite pickles? No problem, just grab some cucumbers and make your own! Not to mention that it’s an environmentally friendly idea to reuse both the jar and the pickle juice.

Now I cannot say how many times this hack can be repeated with the same juice. I’ve only tried it once with several different varieties. I guarantee it will work great at least once, but feel free to experiment and see how many times you can reuse the juice before it no longer works. It may be more than you think!

How long will the pickles stay “good?” If I’m using my jars, should I boil jars first? Or after.. to seal??
